the Aerospatiale AS332 was originally designed for civil transport missions. Larger and more powerful than the Puma, it became clear that the aircraft would interest the military. A military transport helicopter version designated AS332M, capable of accommodating twenty armed and equipped infantrymen, was marketed.

The Swiss Air Force ordered 3 AS332 M1 Super Puma in 1986, and 12 in 1989. The aircraft are T-311 to T-325.
